Saigon Phu Quoc Resort

There's not much around Phu Quoc island, but this is about the best location you can get. The night market is a 10 min walk and most of the other decent bars/restos are nearby - don't be fooled into thinking that that makes it a lively area though, it isn't. Meanwhile Long Beach is only 'ok' and at the Saigon Resort section there is a sea wall separating sea and sand, making a quick dip not so alluring and certainly inconvenient. There is nothing along the beach except more resorts.
We were priced out of the market for a massage - $40 - and the hotel restaurant was too pricey to eat at as well. Breakfast however was excellent. In general I think this hotel is showing its age a bit and is overpriced. Consider next door Long Beach resort instead if it's cheaper.
PS the pool was well maintained in general however the lifeguard did nothing to stop the constant hawking and spitting from other guests...

The only negative remark is about the price. It's far too high for this location and what the hotel is offering in return. Apart from this point, I really can recommend this hotel to anyone who is aware of the fact that Phu Quoc has (luckily) not yet the standard of other locations in Vietnam and who is looking for a few relaxed days. The beach is beautiful (sunset!) and the water clear. The rooms are clean (only remark here is that the hotel had according to our request put two single beds together - unfortunately, the night table was fixed in the original position, so that the bed had to stand away from the wall after this... this was a little odd). The staff is really nice and trying to help, though the language problem often is a handicap.
