Buôn Ma Thuot, the capital and the largest city and capital of Dak Lak Province and the region's 'Capital of Coffee'. With a population of 300,000 – most of whom are relative newcomers, Buôn Ma Thuot is an ideal base for trekking in nearby Yok Don National Park. The 1,155sqkm Park is 40 kilometres west of the city and features one of the most varied forests ... More>in a country known for its diversity. It is home to rarities such as the Indochinese tiger and gaur ox. Getting there is a bit of a trek, because the area is almost 370 kilometres from Saigon. Those looking for a much less touristy visit than Dalat will definitely enjoy it though, as there are plenty of untouched areas to visit, from local hill tribes to unusual Cham architecture. There are also some stunning waterfalls, although they require a little bit of exertion to visit, we really like Drai Sap and Drayling. Don’t swim in the waters near Drai Sap though. It may look beautiful but there are some sharp rocks under the surface that might lead to nasty cuts.
