At the southern end of the island, close to Nai Harn beach, lies Rawai, a nice shady beach with great views of the outlying islands, but a swimming beach as the tide goes out to the horizon! This is also an excellent starting point to hire a speedboat or longtail boat to the outlying islands of Ko Hae, Ko Lone and Ko Racha (Raya).
