My review is mixed. The rooms were great - large and very comfortable. We had a room overlooking the pond and pool which also had some great views of the surrounding cliffs. The balcony was a joy to have too. The services outlined for Railay Princess - phone, breakfast, DVDs, etc - were not available onsite but rather at their sister resort Railay Bay (located in Railay West). Railay West beach is about 5-10 minutes walk away.
There is construction next door, which seems to go at all hours. It isn't really disruptive but it can make walking to Railay East a challenge with all the construction supplies and workers about.
Walking to Railay West is a short walk away. There is a very strong smell of raw sewage along the trail leading to Railay West making it a bit unpleasant.
The breakfast is offered through Railay Princesses sister resort, Railay Bay. It was a great buffet with all kinds of foods to pick from - fresh fruit, salad, omelettes, thai stir fried dishes, etc. The food offerings on Railay East seemed questionable so my friend and I decided to head back to Railay Bay for lunch. They seemed to have clean facilities but we were wrong! We ended up getting food poisoning here, not able to keep anything down for about 12-hours. We were set to leave Railay and Thailand the following day. This made travel very difficult. There is no doctor on Railay, a boat taxi to Ao Nang has to be arranged. Railay Princess would not accommodate us staying in our room until 2:30pm, when we had scheduled an airport drop off (even though the room was available). We opted to head to the airport early because sitting somewhere in Railay, sick with food poisoning, for 3 hours was not an option.
Upon check out, Railay Princess provides an option to give a tip. I have never seen an option to tip a resort or hotel. I did not believe that Railay Princess went above and beyond in their service. I do not even feel they fulfilled what should be expected of them as part of their regular service.
1) While the rooms were great, there was some sort of workers quarters across from our balcony. People sat out there all day and peered into our room - what else are they to look at I suppose but this seemed odd to me.
2) When we checked in, a man was asked to show us to our room. He didn't bother to even ask to help carry our luggage and he didn't take us to our room, he just pointed to where it was once we were around the corner from the main office.
3) Railay Princess wouldn't accommodate us staying in the room longer while waiting for our airport drop off. They instead offered for us to sit in their lobby for 3 hours. The room was available, they asked when we went to check out if we would like the room for another day. While laying in the room waiting to check out, someone came in to count the mini bar purchases which was rude and intrusive considering our condition and considering it wasn't time to check out yet.
4) Upon checking out, we were taken to the longtail waiting to take us shore so we could take the van to Krabi airport. It was pouring down rain and were not even offered an umbrella (the person taking us was using one). And once again, no one offered help with luggage.
So while the rooms were relatively nice, I do not think I would stay here again. Services here feel short. Overall, while Railay is gorgeous, I do not think I would come back to stay on the island until it is a bit more developed. With questionable eating facilities (and I ate street food in Bangkok), no doctor on the island, no pharmacy open until late morning, and no easy means to call home, my experience here was not a good one and the last one I had of Thailand. Come for a day trip to enjoy this island and the views it has to offer.
