SALA TALAY Resort and Spa

The hotel itself is very nice. Nice new and clean decore, the rooms were clean with nice bathrooms and an earthy feel.
Staff service was mixed. The reception and porters were very pleasant. In particular Sandy at reception was lovely and I tipped well as she stood above all others. Housekeepers are rude and very unaccomodating. Had to ask for fresh pool towels as the ones from the day before were filthy; when I did ask was met with a look of disdain. BUT, that appears to be the norm for service in Krabi. Overall, the service was terrible. Ate at Wan Sei seafood as it was apparetnly good adn the service was shocking. Got yelled at by a waitress as she couldnt understand my perfect English, and got crawled on by Spiders throughout our meal. And that is one of many bad experiences. Overall, I found the F+B staff to be rude and obnocious, especially considering I was paying equivalent to Australian fine dining prices for the food. Shocking.
Back to the hotel. Overall, value for money. I would recommend staying there wihout question as it looked head and shoulders above the other resorts in the vicinity.

The hotel was beautiful and the location was perfect, far enough from the noise and bustle of the main town area but close enough to reach there with a leisurely 15 minute walk. We took the special offer but upgraded to the penthouse which was excellent value for money. Private pool and jaccuzi, giant balcony and sun-deck, beautiful outdoor shower area, glass walls that let the warm buttery sun-light stream in. Decor was brilliant, concrete and wood and natural fabrics, the penthouse came with little amenities that were so useful (like a straw mat and umbrellas that we took with us out to the longboats when we visited nearby beaches. Bed was perfect and firm although pillows were too hard, but that is a personal preference.

Excellent front desk staff -- most helpful and showed considerable initiative to address enquiries. Lovely restful resort overall despite being in the very busy heart of Patong.
The doorless bathroom ( open plan with the bedroom ) was interesting and unlikely to be to everyone's liking!
