I have been working in the hotel business for 10 years in Scandinavia,
of which the last 5 was as general manager for a couple of hotels in
Sweden.
We have booked the hotel for 2 nights, and we are very surprised, that
this hotel has rated itself as a 4 star hotel.
When we booked the hotel, we booked a hotel that had an indoor and an
outdoor restaurant. The indoor restaurant is closed and the outdoor
restaurant is open from 10 a.m to 6 p.m. For food you need to go to
the restaurant next door. Here they serve you food, but when we asked
for a cup of coffee after diner, we were told that this was only
served in the morning.
The rooms are of very poor standard, and when we told reception, that
we our outdoor light did not work, because there was no pulps in the
lamps, they came from maintenance and gave us one pulp, so we had
outdoor light on half the area.
We also complained about the hot water, as we expect a 4 star hotel to
have hot water. The maintenance person showed us, that if we had only
hot water running for 2 minutes, where only cold water was coming out,
then after that period, the water was hot ( in his terms), for me it
was acceptable but not hot.
The swimming pool is large and is cleaned well, but the ladders to get
to the pool are rusty and shaky, and a number of the tiles in the pool
are broken, and needs to be replaced.
The towels given to us for swimming as well as the parasols were worn
out and ripped to pieces by the weather. The Poolbar could not open in
one side due to the weather made it rusty. And in the other side,
there was no service.
As nothing happens in the hotel after the reception closes at 10 p.m.
until the next morning, we decided to use the WI FI where we had seen
several lines in the hotel (although they had poor connection, they
were available). Unfortunately the DNS was wrong and all staff was
away after 10 p.m.
The hotel in general is not maintained to a standard, that we have
found on all other hotels booked through latestays.com.
We woke up before eight o clock in the morning, because the maid
entered the room, turning all the light on, before realizing, that we
were actually in the room sleeping. When checking out of the hotel,
the staff refused to call for a taxi, but offered that we could use
the hotels minibus for a high price.
These examples are 2 examples of an unexperienced staff, with the
lack of good guidance from an experienced manager. And I must admit,
that this way of treating guest is far from any experience I have had
during my more than 20 visits to Thailand over the last 30 years.
The positive sides from this stay, was that the beds are very good,
and that the coffee shop actually makes the best cup of coffee we have
had on this visit to Thailand. (Unfortunately it is only served for a
short period everyday)
We have decided not to stay for both days (even if we have to pay for
both days), but in Europe this hotel would never be given more than 2
stars, and after normal standards here in Thailand it can hardly be
more than a 1 star hotel.
As I have past experience within the hotel business, I can see that
the hotel have been a nice hotel, and when it was newly build and when
everything worked it might have been of a better standard. But I
expect that due to a bad financial position (the hotel is close to
having no guests, here in the busy season), management has decided to
cut on all expenses. Therefore the hotel is short of staff, no pulps
in the lamps, the restaurant is closed, the WI FI is not of acceptable
standard, the pool is not maintained, and the garden is not
maintained. The hotel needs paint in most areas and so forth.
The hotel insisted on us paying full price, which we do not find
reasonable, as they did not provide us with the service they have
written on latestays.com. And we expect to have a refund of the cost
for the second night.
