Sathorn is characterised by its impressive skyline of high rise buildings and gleaming corporate head offices. However, being known as the modern business centre of Bangkok doesn't mean there aren't things to enjoy for travellers in this restless area.!
Stretching from Lumphini Park to the river, Sathorn contains some of Bangkok's chicest hotels. As the ... More>area is known for its business clientele it is also no surprise to learn that it caters for them with refined high-end restaurants and bars serving sophisticated cocktails. There is, however, another side to this part of Bangkok which is quite the opposite to what the typical luxury Sathorn hotel clients would expect. Soi Ngam Duphli is a characterful road full of cheap guesthouses and affordable Sathorn hotels and it has been compared to Khao San Road for the services it offers backpackers. Meanwhile, on a slightly more upscale and trendy note is Narathiwat Road. Lined with well priced and fashionable restaurants, this is a great place to hang out if you want to head slightly off the tourist trail.
From Sathorn sky train station have a look at the view and see if you can spot the famous 'Robot Building'. Designed like a retro robot complete with eyes, this building attracts controversy but is good fun to pick out of the skyline.
