One of Bangkok's most spectacular highlights, Chinatown is vibrant, rowdy, pungent and bursting with character! If the scintillating food on offer doesn't attract you then the history, neon lit streets and intriguing alleyways will!
Largely based around Yaowarat Road, the Chinese community first set up businesses here in the late 18th Century, however nowadays ... More>Chinatown has spread to the nearby Charoen Krung Road. Yaowarat is the classic image the guidebooks use and it's not hard to see why as gigantic neon signs compete for your attention by reaching further across the road and blazing as brightly as possible. Come at night time and it makes a great spectacle! Stroll down this road and you'll notice the fundamental importance of food in this part of Bangkok. The streets are packed with steamy stalls selling sumptuous suppers and snacks. Some of the very best food in the capital can be found here on the street and in the numerous Chinese restaurants.
From your Yaowarat hotel, venture down the small tightly packed alleys and into aged shop fronts to find obscure food on sale as well as second hand electronics and the ubiquitous gold. At night we recommend having a look at Klong Tom Market which specialises in all manner of items, which we're not sure are actually legal or not.
