Famous for its lighthouse, the oldest in the country and dating back to 1824, Green Point has an excellent location bordering the city centre, the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront shopping and entertainment complex, Three Anchor Bay and the popular Sea Point area. The Green Point Common is a well-known recreational area with a large stadium (a massive flea market is held outside the stadium on Sundays), a 9-hole golf course, tennis courts and soccer fields. From Upper Green Point, views over the Atlantic Ocean and Robben Island are awe-inspiring. Major developments have taken place on the beachfront in recent years, and a paved promenade with benches offers a perfect vantage point to watch the sunset, boats go by and even the occasional dolphins or whales frolicking in the icy water. You can also take a walk all along the promenade to Sea Point’s saltwater pools. Several historical buildings abound, like the Somerset Hospital and Fort Wynard.
