Singaporean travel conscience revealed
Asia Web Direct survey reveals finance, culture and the environment are the top concerns of Singaporean travellers
Bangkok - 24 August 2009: A Travel Conscience survey of 425 Singaporeans, conducted by leading Asia travel website, Asia Web Direct in conjunction with Omy.sg found that finance, culture and the environment are on the minds of Singaporeans when they travels.
According to the survey, despite the economic doom and gloom, Singaporeans are still taking holidays, but consciously research to find the best value accommodation and tour deals (76% of respondents) and look for destinations closer to home (57% of respondents).
Asia Web Direct CEO Sii Eawsakul said "More and more travellers have become price-conscious and scout out the best deals using online sites like AsiaWebDirect.com and our last-minute accommodation deals site LateStays.com.
"Concerns over finance have not hindered our customers' desire to travel, so our team at Asia Web Direct focus on finding value-for-money hotel and tour deals to meet their needs," she added.
When it comes to travelling, Singaporean travellers are not solely price-conscious, they are culturally conscious as well, with most respondents actively seeking information about their holiday destinations.
73% of respondents state that they prefer to learn about the history of a destination before and during their visit and 62% like to learn about the local language and customs.
According to the survey, Singaporean travellers are also going green, with 84% taking environmentally friendly measure when they travel. They consciously turn off air conditioning, lights and the TV whenever they leave the room, keep the same towels and bed sheets during a short stay and use public transport and walk as much as possible.
"Due to the growing concern over the environment, tourists worldwide, including Singaporeans, have become more and more environmentally conscious and are changing their travel habits to help work towards a more sustainable environment.
"Singaporeans are well travelled in general, being some of the top travellers who book through Asia Web Direct and from these results it appears that they have a very positive and sustainable attitude to travel in general," said Sii.
