Coimbra’s pride as the once Portuguese capital city is still shining when eight centuries passed. The historic city of Coimbra is in the central part of Portugal, 195 km north of Lisbon, where houses the historic places just cannot to miss. Visit the old Romanesque cathedral (Se Velha), Jesuit cathedral (Se Nova) and the gothic church and the ever resting place of Portugal’s first king (Santa Cruz). The largest Roman ruins can be seen here. Gardens are also fascinating, Botanic Garden, Jardim da Sereia – Mermaid’s Garden, Parque Manuel da Nóbrega - City Park, nearby Mondego River and University of Coimbra providing nice view of the river.
