Dalat

Dalat is the capital of Lâm Đồng province in Vietnam.  It is found on the Lám Viên (Langbian) highlands in the greater Central Highlands and is more than 300 kilometres away from Ho Chi Minh City.  The city's name was coined by the hill tribe people of the region. Dalat literally means ‘Stream of the Lat people’. Known as the City of Eternal Spring, Dalat is also a top honeymoon destination and is famous as a vacation destination for the wealthy Vietnamese and foreigners.

It was initially called ‘Le Petit Paris’ by the builders and first residents of the town because it served as a luxurious haven for travellers and city residents. In fact, in the 20th century, French colonials who wanted to escape the heat of Saigon went here. Dalat's reputation as a posh retreat remains; here, tourists can go sightseeing and see the wonderful temples, as well as enjoy golf on the impressive courses. Because Dalat is 1,500 metres above sea level, the city is cool 365 days a year.  The elevation also allows the city to resemble an alpine resort in Europe without losing the rural hillside charm of Vietnam.
