Little India

Little India, as its name promises, is the centre for the Indian community of Singapore. Located at the east of Singapore River just across Chinatown and north of Kampong Glam, Little India may be regarded as a world apart from the rest of Singapore. It was originally a European enclave that eventually bloomed into an Indian cultural hub after Jewish-Indians developed a settlement and started raising cattle and trading livestock in the area.

Today, Little India manages to retain its distinct Tamil roots amidst a constant flow of tourists, and is regarded as one of the most attractive spots to visit in Singapore. The town’s main draw is Serangoon Road where a wide variety of entertainment centres can be found, including the Tekka Centre, Tekka Mall,  Serangoon Plaza, Little India Arcade and Mustafa Centre. Several Hindu temples, mosques, and other places of worship are also scattered across the town such as the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, Foochow Methodist Church, Angullia Mosque, Kampong Kapor Methodist Church and Jalan Mosque among others. The area is primarily accessed through the MRT stations of Little India and Farrer Park.
