Central Business District
Central Business District (CBD), located to the immediate south of Singapore River, is the core financial and commercial hub. This is where most of Singapore's urban planning areas are concentrated, which include the Downtown Core, Marina East, Marina South, Museum, Newton River Valley, Orchard, Rochor and Outram, just to name a few.
One of Singapore's renowned landmarks, Raffles place is just above the MRT station, and is surrounded by gleaming commercial skyscrapers. CBD is just a short walk across the Cavenagh Bridge from the Colonial District. There are various sculptures scattered around the area and along the nearby river. Among the large buildings are a few colonial relics of intrinsic and cultural value which are preserved and put into good economic use, including shop-houses and temples. Some of these are still utilized by historical Singaporean groups such as the Asian Civilisation Museum and the Peranakan Museum. In general, CBD is a beautiful mix of the past and present and is a well consolidated avenue for business, education and leisure.
