Perak carries the title of Darul Ridzuan, meaning the Land of Grace. It covers a total of 21,000 square kilometres and houses a population of roughly 2 million. Perak of long ago was famous for its rich tin deposits. It was from the local word for silver tin ore that this state got its name; aas perak means silver. And it was this discovery of tin by Long Jaafar that brought forth the influx of immigrants to the state. The capital of Perak is Ipoh, and Kuala Kangsar is its royal town.
