Gilt mirrors, gleaming marble, and a sweeping circular staircase (perfect for making a grand entrance) make the five-star Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur a property that is truly unforgettable. Set along the quiet, tree-lined Jalan Conlay, it has a hideaway hotel feel and houses an impressive list of onsite facilities, ranging from standards like a spa, gym and pool to a barbecue deck, mini theatre and beauty salon. However, what really makes this hotel memorable is its ground floor, glass-roofed garden, which comes complete with glittering chandeliers, towering trees and water fountains. The hotel has four onsite dining venues (including three award-winning fine-dining restaurants, open from 12:00 - 22:30): LHeritage offers French cuisine, Tai Ping serves up Cantonese dishes and Bunga Emas has a menu of classic Malay food. ... Frequently playing host to Malaysian royalty (Raja Perempuan Perlis - the queen of Perlis - is a repeat visitor at Bunga Emas restaurant), service is second to none at Royale Chulan KL. Everything seems to have been designed on a superlative scale here, from the ornate chandeliers and flamboyant woodwork lattices to the pillars with embedded glass cabinets housing traditional keris knives.

The 12-storey hotel has a total of 10 room types, ranging in size from 40sqm to 120sqm. Out of its 402 accommodation units, 299 are hotel rooms while 103 are one- and two-bedroom serviced apartments. The hotels luxurious furnishings are also apparent in guestrooms - think plush carpets, Chesterfield sofas, ornate woodwork and batik-inspired satin bed runners. The entry level 40sqm Superior unit comes with a flat-screen TV offering cable channels, a DVD player, lifestyle magazines like Forbes Asia and Teratai Ayu toiletries, plus iPod docking stations are available upon request. However, take our advice and level up to the 41sqm Deluxe unit which has fantastic views of KLCC. If you are interested in a room offering comprehensive facilities and services then select the 46sqm Royale Club rooms which come with butler service, free laundry services for four clothing items and access to the Royal Club where all day snacks and evening tea is served from 06:30 - 10:30.

For a 5 star hotel, the services provided were poor - eg only 1 toothbrush despite the booking being for 2.
We made overseas calls with a calling card on a toll free number and were charged 5 ringgit for 16 calls. Most of these calls did not even connect. We always use overseas phone cards and have never been charged or else only charged a small fee.
We checked in our flight on the web and explained this to the concierge. We informed him that we were planning to check in our luggage at KL Central train station. He did not inform us that we needed to do this 2 hours prior to our flight as a result we were extremely rushed and almost missed our flight.
The hotel categorises itself as KLCC location, however, it is at least a 20 minute walk in KL humidity.
We asked if we could borrow an adaptor and it took 3 calls to the reception and more than 2 hours to arrive. In comparison, we have just completed a stay at Coco Grand Ueno, Tokyo (a small hotel) and made the same request. Although, they did not have the adaptor we required, they purchased one from a nearby shop for our use throughout our stay.
Only 2 tea bags and coffee sachets are provided daily. Most other 5 star establishments provide a variety of teas and coffees.
On our last day, our room was not cleaned when we returned at 4.30 pm.
Overall, the staff are pleasant and friendly, but I believe the management of the hotel is poor and extremely thrifty. This hotel compares poorly with other 4 or 5 star hotels.

Everything very clean and a superb breakfast. Hotel is behind the Pavilion shopping centre, about 5 minutes walking.
