Five minutes from the Petronas Twin Tower and Bukit Bintang shopping area, Hotel Istana is a five-star business hotel with a touch of charm and luxury. Istana is Malay for palace, and the hotel is rightfully described as such, as it exudes elegance and grandeur, starting with the lobby lounge Songket Lounge with its high ceilings, intricately-patterned marbled columns, and tall glass windows with views of the gorgeously-landscaped gardens, to staff clad in traditional purple songket kebaya and baju melayu outfits welcoming you. Being in Jalan Raja Chulan makes Hotel Istana all the more attractive, too - with business centres, shopping, sightseeing and nightlife all a short walk away, guests are sure to be kept occupied throughout their stay. Facilities are impeccable and all geared towards relaxation and winding down after a hard days work - a shopping arcade, a florist, an international chain spa, five onsite dining outlets, an outdoor swimming pool and, our favourite features; two beautifully lush gardens, named Kelantan and Melaka, with exotic green species for you to bask in.

Rooms are airy and minimalistic, with classic-style furnishings such as wooden panels flanking the windows and a marble-fitted bathroom for a touch of opulence. Wired internet access, an LCD TV with cable channels, and radio with five channels wrap up the media amenities, together with an in-room safe, bath with separate shower and double vanity, a working desk and a seating area with views of the city skyline. The entry-level Deluxe Room category, with 38sqft and warm earthy colours, comes with either king or twin beds, but if you require more peace and quiet, we recommend the Club Rooms, located at the 18th floor onwards. Club Rooms resemble their Deluxe counterparts, but with access to Club lounge, serving complimentary breakfast, snacks and pre-dinner cocktails exclusive for Club floor occupants only.

It was a repeated stay ths year for attending annual seminar in the hotel. Last year was impressed by a friendly waiter who served us at the poolside for breakfast. This year was
surprised by Mr. Zell for his warm hospitably. We are very happy to meet nice people like them during our trip to KL. And will take Istana Hotel as our first choice if staying for our future trip.

We very much enjoy staying at the Istana in KL but were unable to come this time as I had heart surgery and was unable to travel. However, my wife and I look forward to returning to the Istana in the New Year as my health improves. The charm and marvellous staff here is well worth the effort. Good value and good position for markets and entertainment areas Monorail station across the road is handy also.
