Lantau Hotels

Lantau is one of 235 outlying islands. Although twice the size of Hong Kong Island and the largest island in the bay, Lantau Island with a population around 20,000, is still undeveloped. The main town (Mui Wo) (Silvermine Bay) can be reached by a frequent one-hour ferry service from Hong Kong. Lantau provides a calm contrast to the hectic pace of Hong Kong with quiet beaches, outdoor pursuits like cycling through the countryside and horse-riding. Attractions include Cheung Sha Upper Beach, 3.2 kilometres of white sand; Chung Fort dating back to 1817 and the Po Lin Monastery, which contains the world's largest, outdoor seated statue of Buddha (24 metres high).
