Grand Hyatt Fukuoka officially opened its door to city of Fukuoka on April 26, 1996 as a part of the Canal City Hakata complex, a multi-purpose centre built across the river from the Nakasu entertainment district. The Canal City Hakata includes a retail mall with over 150 shops, a performing arts theatre, United Cinema movie theatres, an amusement facility, two hotels and two office buildings.
