The State of the Vatican City or Stato della Città del Vaticano, is a landlocked sovereign city-state, situated on a low hill of 19-75 m above sea level within the city of Rome. Approximately 44 hectares at size (smaller than some shopping mall), it is the smallest independent nation in the world. It was created in 1929 by the Lateran Treaty as a vestige of the much larger Papal States (756 to 1870), ruled by the Bishop of Rome (the Pope). To access the nation can do by taxi, bus and foot (also for getting around) Rome, take the Metro line A to Cipro for the Museums, or Ottaviano for St. Peter’s, or the tram to Piazza del Risogimento. The Vatican Euro is the rarest in circulation among the European countries, so don't spend it. It is worth a lot more than its face value.
