Nusa Dua - Tanjung Benoa average

The Westin Brand comes under the Starwood Brand and as a Starwood Privilege and Preferred Guest one would have thought the team would be doing their upmost to please . . . . Check in is a 3pm not 2pm like most hotels. My family and I had booked a family suite - the room allocated to us was not ready so we had to wait an hour, during this time other families arrived and were taken straight to their family suites. It was only when the head of catering saw us sitting in the lounge looking frustrated that anything happened.
The rooms - the family suite concept is excellent however renovation of the rooms was only complete in May and already 2.5 months later the walls are dirty (extremely) with chips and dents all over the place. The floor is the cheap laminate wood which is REALLY noisy so if your children are asleep it's difficult to walk around quietly. To get from one room to the other it's almost like you have to walk through a maze - OK if you have teenage children but for children who might go looking for their parents not great. Both rooms had two doors to a balcony each set with a gap between the doors of about ¾ inch - this was OK except when there was a nightly function at the pool and it felt like we were almost at the function (we were on the 5th floor). Lying in bed at 10.30pm we could hear exactly what people were saying around the pool.
The worst part of our room was at 6.30am every morning the electricity in our room would flick off and on. When it came back on it would override the master switch and all the lights would come on waking up everyone in the room. This happened every day of our stay.
The hotel was extremely crowded and breakfast time was like feeding time at the zoo. Given the hotel was at full capacity there isn't much that they can do about this but it was very frustrating. Having said this the food was still fine.
Many people have claimed that the service around the pool was not that great, we found this not to be correct and in fact the service around the pool for us was the best.
I'm not too sure I would stay at this hotel again but if I did it would be under several conditions:
- not during Australian School holidays (and we have children!!)
- not in a family suite - just get two room next to each other
- not in a room that looks onto the pool
