Spandau is the westernmost borough (Bezirk) of Berlin, situated at the confluence of the Havel and Spree rivers and along the western bank of the Havel. The district is dated back in the 7th or 8th century, when the Slav Heveller first settled in the area and later built a fortress there. Sammlung Berggruen is impressive for its collections of paintings, good for the arts hungers, while Schloss Charlottenburg (1600s – 1700s), which only the architecture and the garden designed are excellent. Though, do not miss the Spandau Citadel, Fortress built in the 16th century and St. Nikolai Church built in the Middle Ages.
