Samaná (Santa Barbara de Samaná) or Samaná City is a town and the provincial capital of Samaná in eastern Dominican Republic. The town sits on Cape Samana and north of the Samana Bay. Due to the opening of Samaná El Catey International Airport in 2006, it has become one of the country’s major tourist destinations. Yet it has not reached the full potential of its valuable assets including the tropical forests, coconut groves, hundreds of cozy niche beaches with turquoise crystal clear waters, waterfalls, unspoiled national parks, a protected bay, a peninsula and it is where the thousands of humpback whales offspring call home, and can be seen their herds from January till March.
