Porec is a city and municipality on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula. The 2000 year-old town protected by the island of Sveti Nikola (Saint Nicolas) is a historical town of the ancient Roman Castrum structure. The main streets are Decumanus and Cardo Maximus, still preserved in their original ancient forms. Marafor is a Roman square with two temples attached, is dedicated to Neptune, a few of Romanesque houses are well preserved and beautiful Venetian Gothic palaces can be seen here. The accommodations are various from brand name ones to self-contained ones. Wine tasting in local villages is not-to-miss, where the local food also served.
