Dali Hotels
Dali is the cultural centre of the Dali Bai autonomous prefecture. Fringed by the epic Cangshan Mountains (Jade Green Mountains) to the south, east and west the city's centre is defined by the Erhai Lake (one of the seven biggest freshwater lakes in China). The city is divided into two areas of interest – the Ancient City and the New District, commonly known as Xiaguan. Most attractions in Dali lie between these two landmarks. Dali was founded in 1383 during the Ming Dynasty and was originally encircled by the city walls which now encompass the Ancient City, which is best explored by bicycle. Popular with backpackers, Dali is a place to relax and soak up the laid-back atmosphere, as it is the antithesis of busy destinations such as Shanghai or Beijing. Well-known local products and specialties are the bowl-shaped compressed tea leaves, cigars, Zha-dyed cloth, bow fish and snow pears. Dali is a small city packed with unique charms and customs; a place where fascinating cultural and recreational pursuits can be pursued.
