In 1963, The Independence Hotel used to be Sihanoukville s most luxurious and elitist accommodation. It was definitely one of Cambodia s most reputable resorts. While the 7th floor building was the work of renowned French architects, the interior was designed by no other than His Majesty King Norodom Sihanouk, the ruler of the Kingdom during that era.Today, the Independence Hotel is fully restored to its former beauty and glory. The 88 elegantly designed room and suites feature evread moreery convenience for all types of guests from business to leisure travelers. The breathtaking resort setting and its distinctive decor give guests a felling of luxury and tranquility.

The hotel has a lot charm & is on an exquisite piece of land. The rooms in the new section are nice but definitely not worth the price. The service at the hotel is extremely aggravating. The biggest problem is that the staff don't understand English. The management should realize that this hotel is going to loose a lot of its potential due to bad service. The new years eve dinner was a total rip & a joke.

The hotel has a great location if you want peace and quiet, which we did. The beach is beautiful and clean although they could do with a few more sun beds and shade umbrellas. Although we were told at the front desk that towels were provided on the beach, this was not always the case, and we often had to go back up the steps to the pool area to get our towels. The staff is friendly and courteous. The food could be improved upon. The Sunset Bar/Restaurant offers a nice all-you-can-eat seafood barbecue but it is quite pricey for Cambodia ($18 per person, age 12 and over). The regular menu needs work. When we ordered a grilled snapper on toast "sandwich" (under the sandwich section of the menu) for example, we were served bits of grilled fish (not sure it was really snapper) on chopped cabbage. No sign of any bread. The grilled vegetable salad claims to have feta cheese in it. No feta, just some white spreadable processed cheese.
Be sure to check your bill upon checking out, as there was a mistake with another guest having billed something to our room. Fortunately it was obvious by comparing signatures, that we had not ordered this item.
