Blue River Hotel

The hotel is not in the centre of town, it is several Km away on a road that is not all paved, so travelling along it gets quite dusty. My room faced the Mekong River, so the view was good. The breakfast was poor - there was a choice of rice, noodle, and congee and soup dishes; the only meat was small cuts of a rather poor sausage; the main protein was eggs, fried and boiled. A choice of about two or three fruits. White bread only. Good jam. Orange juice only. Tea and coffee. That's about it. Most mornings I was virtually the only one there. A shuttle to town is available, but make your own way back. The room was big enough and clean enough, but the power failed sometimes. The lighting seemed inadequate, it would have been hard to read by such light. The air conditioning worked well. In the bathroom there were two (2) shower heads, but very weak water flow and difficult to adjust the temperature. The swimming pool was tucked away on the first floor. I did not try it. Although payments are negotiated in $US, the lobby did not have any change.

The staff were really lovely. It was a bit far away from downtown (not walkable due to the construction on the road and the traffic) but they offered a free transfer to downtown which was very helpful. The internet was a bit bad at first but they fixed the problem. The pool was very nice, the rooms were a good size and they offered a yummy noodle soup at the buffet breakfast.
