This is one of Victoria?s last remaining traditional, country guesthouses, now refurbished into a very comfortable small hotel in the heart of Halls Gap. With its balconies and unique 2 story Queenslander style facade, the Mountain Grand is a friendly "home away from home" - an unpretentious place to welcome you after a big day exploring the majestic mountains & valleys of the Grampians National Park.
The 1940s House (3.5 AAA stars) is spacious & reminiscent of 'art decor' touches. There are ten warm, cosy guest bedrooms with clean, tidy layout and ensuite bathrooms - some with spas. House furnishings befit the 40s, 50s, 60s period styles, and must not be mistaken as dated or worn. There is no pretentious luxury, just homely Australian country comfort with wood fire lounge rooms, big screen TVs and Club Bar (full hotel liquor licence throughout house & garden). ... [+] More Those expecting 5 star opulence & service will be sorely disappointed. Indeed, the sheer value is in the ambience of the following: the sense of tradition, the generous country style food, and the experience akin to being welcome in family feeling surroundings.
The house is a 'work in progress' of ongoing renovations which never interfere with the standard of amenity for guests. In fact, returning & regular guests marvel at the latest improvements since their last visit. Whilst the high expectations of some cannot be met, the absolute majority of guests fully appreciate & love this increasingly rare style of accommodation. They & the local townspeople recognise & support the vital need to preserve these dwindling numbers of Guest Houses for posterity.
"The Balconies" Restaurant & "Cafe Grand" are so popular, especially on Saturday nights with mellow 30s to 70s live music - 'the best music of all time' performed by a selected rotating parade of professional musicians.
The whole property has WiFi.
Depending upon which package, breakfasts & dinners are included in the tariff. Diners enjoy 3 courses with their full choice of a quite extensive menu.
